THE POPSTICKS^® STORY

The POPSTICKS^®  products are the brainchild of Ray Westfall, the inventor. 

Ray is an automotive technician from Turlock California who came upon the idea for a safer B-B-Q roasting stick by chance.  Several years ago, Rays' daughter planned a multi-family camping trip to celebrate her dad on Fathers Day.  Tonja had asked her dad to bring the family hotdog roasting sticks that he made 30 or so years ago.  There were three crude sticks made of heavy wire, twisted and bent to hold hotdogs, marshmallows, etc., about three feet long, rusted, and looking very rough.  At first, Ray intended to make more roasting sticks, just like the old ones, so he set out to make 6 new ones, enough to share with the additional guests expected to join the camping trip.

After guathering the wire and tools, while he was sweeping up his work area the broom he was using broke.  It was a cheap import with an aluminum handle and was now useless.

Or, was it?

Now holding the broken broom handle, and looking at the wire he gathered, Ray had an idea.  He cut the aluminum tube handle and attached the wire to one end, forming the forks, and now he had a sturdy B-B-Q roasting stick about three feet long.

Ray really liked the new roasting tool, except for one thing.  Like all campfire roasting forks, it would be difficult, and dangerous to haul, carry and store due to its length and the sharp ends!

That's when Ray discovered he could solve a lot of the problems with one great idea.  Store the sharp end of the fork inside the aluminum tubing!  So he cut off the tubing, expanded the end to fit over the handle and attached the wire fork to the short piece of the tubing.  Now he had a roasting stick, half the length, when the sharp end was stored inside the tubing.  The longer piece created the safe storage area for the fork.  It was a great size for fondeau, but also doubled as a longer handle when cooking over a campfire.

By allowing the cooking fork to be stored inside its handle, Popsticks^® can now be easily used, safely stored and is small enought to be comfortably transported.

POPSTICKS^® new self storing feature was so unique that Ray was able to have it patented.
